Denbaya Tops Tribeca Tripleheader

Rock, Jazz and West African Rhythms Highlight Tribeca Tripleheader–All for a $10 Ticket

Great sounds from a range of musical genres arrive at the Mainstage of the 92Tribeca Y on Wed. evening, Aug. 24.  Priced at just $10 a ticket, the eclectic evening of rock, jazz and world music features emerging guitarist and songwriter Emanuel Gibson, the talented jazz singer Fay Victor and world music band Denbaya, with Malian artist Makane Kouyate.   

Doors open at 7:30, show starts at 8:30. 

First up will be Brooklyn’s own Emanuel Gibson (www.emanuelgibson.com), a musician who has caught the eye and ear of Quincy Jones among many others. 

Next, jazz singer Fay Victor will perform with Andrew Bemkey on piano and Dominic Lash on bass. She has released seven critically acclaimed recordings as a leader, toured extensively throughout the world and has worked with a veritable who's-who of musicians including Anthony Braxton, Misha Mengelberg, William Parker, Roswell Rudd, Laurence “Butch” Morris, Gary Lucas and Tyshawn Sorey. Denbaya brings West African rhythms to the stage for the rousing finale.  Featuring Malian singer, acoustic guitar player, songwriter and percussionist Makane Kouyate, Denbaya (which means family in Bambara) performs captivating original compositions that defy easy categorizations. Denbaya plays tunes with influences that range from jazz and rock to reggae, while remaining true to the spirit of Malian music.  (www.denbaya.com
