Glimpses of Irish natural history and the books it has inspired comes to us from Colorado of all places, offered up as a St. Patrick’s Day present from the Colorado’s Rocky Mountain Land Library.

The Saint Patrick’s Day narrative here usually settles on saints, scholars, bards, step-dancers, harpers, fiddlers, pipers, whiskey, stout, shamrocks, politicians and police officers. The Ireland of otters, birds, bogs, stone circles, ring forts, and sacred wells is less celebrated, and the same goes for the writing on this world.
